ORLANDO, FL. — A Delta flight from Atlanta landed a little after noon today, (pictured above) marking the first passenger service at Orlando International Airport following a decision to cease commercial operations during Hurricane Dorian.
Airline flight operations began phasing in earlier today, based on crew and aircraft availability for our more than 40-airline partners. The early-morning decision to resume normal operations at noon was made after consultation with the National Weather Service (NWS) about prospective wind and weather conditions.
“You’ve got a lot of airline schedules and you’ve got a lot of folks impacted,” said Phil Brown, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority’s Chief Executive Officer. “It’s a pretty complicated process that’s going to take some time to work through.”
The first outbound flight took passengers to Atlanta on Delta Airlines at 1:25 p.m. Travelers are urged to contact their airlines directly for the latest information on flight details and scheduling options before arriving at the airport.
After an assessment of the airport facilities and airfield, Orlando International’s emergency management team determined the airport and airfield did not sustain major damage from the storm.
As a result of Hurricane Dorian’s unpredictable path, more than 1,400 arrivals and departures were cancelled at MCO between Monday and today.
