Orlando, FL. – Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) Board Chairman Frank Kruppenbacher and GOAA Executive Director Phil Brown, presented Colonel Joe Kittinger with the very first ever GOAA Military Service Award. Nestled amongst a standing room only crowd, in a sea of red, white and blue, Col. Kittinger graciously accepted the one-of-a-kind work of art for his lifetime of aviation service. Selected by a committee of local veterans organizations and authority staff, the award will now become a part of the annual Liberty Weekend festivities and will forever be known as “The Colonel Joe Kittinger Award”.

The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Christopher Wilkins, performed a Liberty Fanfare of patriotic music in the atrium of the Hyatt Hotel. The annual event transforms the airport’s Hyatt Hotel atrium into a concert hall; complete with festive 4th of July decorations, and Marine Corp color guard. Hundreds of local residents and travelers from all around the world joined in the festivities and were given American flags and pins to help celebrate the holiday.

Broadcast quality video of the event is available on YouTube at Orlandoairports channel.
