Orlando, FL. – Orlando International Airport hosts its’ annual 4th of July celebration, an evening of “Liberty Fanfare” featuring patriotic music by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and recognition of local military / aviation hero, Colonel Joe Kittinger. On Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 7:45 p.m., Liberty Weekend begins a new tradition of presenting the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority’s Veterans Service Award. The purpose of the award is to pay tribute to a local military veteran or service member who has helped further the cause of aviation in the Central Florida community.

Once again this year, Liberty Weekend festivities will take place in the Hyatt Regency Hotel atrium. The concert is free and open to the public and those attending will receive commemorative American flags, pins and three hours of complimentary parking.

This year, adding to the festive patriotic atmosphere of Liberty Weekend, will be the airport’s newest art exhibit “The Remembrance Poppies.” Encompassing the performance stage and seating area, in the center of the atrium, 50 tempered-glass poppies created by artist Craig Mitchell Smith pays homage to the American Legion’s symbol of tribute to fallen soldiers since World War I. The exhibit will be on display through November, marking Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Veterans Day.
