5/14/2013 - Orlando International Ends First Quarter of 2013 with Double-Digit International Traffic Growth

ORLANDO, FL. - The first three months of 2013 saw double-digit international traffic growth at Orlando International Airport (MCO) and puts the airport on pace for another record year. January through March, international passenger volume increased 10.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

"As the first airport in the nation to electronically streamline the 1-94 entry form , and one of the first with plans to introduce electronic self-serve kiosks into the international passenger processing area, we have been working closely with Customs and Border Protection. This is necessary to accommodate forecast growth in international traffic and to plan accordingly," says Frank Kruppenbacher, Chairman of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.

The double-digit international growth once again helped to offset a virtually flat domestic travel market. For the first quarter, domestic traffic was down 2.2 percent. Overall, for the quarter, traffic was stable with a slight 0.9 percent decrease.

First Quarter 2013 Passenger Traffic Statistical Data:

  • International traffic increased 10.8 percent with 1,047,434 passengers
  • Domestic traffic was down 2.2 percent with 7,945,104 passengers
  • Overall traffic registered a reduction of less than one percent (0.9) with a total of 8,992,538 travelers

  • International traffic was up 6.4 percent with 390,683 passengers
  • Domestic traffic was up 0.2 percent with 3,060,895 travelers
