10/18/2011 - International Traffic On Record Pace At Orlando International Airport in August
ORLANDO, FL. - International traffic remained on a record pace for 2011 in August at Orlando International Airport (MCO). For the month, international visitation increased nearly 11 percent. At current projections, on a rolling 12-month total, international traffic will surpass last year's record with 3.38 million visitors. That is a 6.5 percent increase over the previous record. International traffic accounts for approximately 10 percent of passenger traffic at Orlando International Airport.
"We are encouraged by the international passenger numbers for August. International air service development will continue to be an area of focus to provide economic stimulus to the region", says Phil Brown, Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
International passengers helped offset a decline in domestic travel for the month, which reflected a decrease of 3.45 percent. Year-to-date, domestic traffic remains 2.3 percent above this same time period last year.
August Statistical Data:
- International traffic increased 10.91 percent
- International travelers amounted to 328,393 passengers
- Domestic traffic decreased 3.45 percent to 2,602,987 passengers for the month
- Overall traffic decreased 2 percent to 2,931,380 for August
Orlando Executive Airport:
Overall operations at Orlando Executive Airport were up nearly 17 percent for August, 16.97 percent.
New Service Announcements:
MCO has new international service scheduled from Gulfstream International Airlines to Marsh Harbour, The Bahamas beginning November 1Oth; VivaAerobus begins service on November 19th to Monterrey. Mexico and LAN Airlines returns to service on January 8, 2012 to Santiago, Chile. Frontier Airlines is also introducing service between Kansas City and Orlando starting January 5, 2012.
