7/15/2011 - Domestic Travel Bolsters Traffic in May at Orlando International Airport
ORLANDO, FL. - May marked the third consecutive month with over 3 million passengers arriving and departing from Orlando International Airport (MCO). Overall traffic increased by 4.3 percent for the month. This can be attributed to sustained growth in domestic travel which increased by 4.81 percent compared to the same period last year. For the first time this year, international traffic volumes were down slightly under one percent. (.87)
"May is actually the second best month in overall percentage performance for passenger traffic so far this year at Orlando international. This good news comes despite a slight dip in international numbers which was expected due to a 3.6 percent reduction in international seat capacity after Martinair and Mexicana Airlines ceased operations", says Phil Brown, Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
May Statistical Data:
- Domestic traffic increased 4.81 percent in May to 2,791,905 travelers

- Total traffic for May totaled 3,050,780 (third consecutive month of more than 3 million passengers)
