5/6/2011 - 2011 First Quarter Traffic Increases at Orlando International Airport

ORLANDO, FL. - The first quarter of the 2011 calendar year is in the books and for Orlando International Airport (MCO) the numbers are positive. Overall traffic for the first three months of the year is up nearly four percent or approximately 342 thousand additional passengers compared to the same quarter of 2010. Both domestic and international traffic experienced increases.

"With the current global economy and spike in fuel prices, the modest gains we're experiencing in international traffic were to be expected. What has really been encouraging is the increase in domestic traffic which had its best month in March since July of last year," says Phil Brown, Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.

March was the first time this year that passenger traffic at Orlando International Airport exceeded 3 million. In total, more than 3.4 million travelers moved through MCO during the month representing an increase of 3.7 percent over the same time period in 2010. Ninety new weekly flights to destinations including Atlanta, Columbus, San Juan, Austin, Baltimore, Chicago, Houston, New Orleans, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, San Antonio, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Cleveland, Miami and Grand Rapids contributed to the positive movement.

2011 First Quarter Statistical Data:

  • Domestic traffic increased 3.86 percent to 8,149,192 passengers
  • International traffic increased 4.83 percent to 839,516 travelers
  • A total of 8,988,708 passengers moved through MCO

March 2011 Statistical Data:

  • Domestic traffic increased 3.99 percent to 3,099,079 passengers
  • International traffic increased 1.10 percent to 302,104 travelers
  • A total of more than 3.4 million passengers moved through MCO 3,401,183

Orlando International Airport has recently been named one of the top airports in the nation for stress-free travel by Smarter Travel.com.
