ORLANDO, FL. - Fiscal year 2005-2006 is now in the history books and Orlando International Airport (MCO) registered an increase of nearly three percent during the twelve month period starting in October 2005. An improvement in both domestic and international travelers pushed the total for the year up 2.92 percent to 34.7 million (34,720,111) passengers.
Nationwide the 2005-2006 fiscal year was a challenging one for airports and the entire airline industry in general. We are pleased to end the fiscal year report on a positive note and will continue to prepare for and implement plans to meet future demand, says Chris Schmidt, Deputy Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
For the month of September traffic was virtually unchanged from this time the previous year, down a fractional .7 percent. Overall operations at Orlando Executive Airport increased nearly eight and a half percent (8.48%) in September and increased nearly five and a half percent (5.48%) for the fiscal year.
In a recent survey, Orlando International Airport was rated as the favorite airport of American travelers according to TripAdvisor.com, the largest travel related community in the world.
