4/21/2004 - Fuqua Named Greater Orlando Aviation Authority Board Chairman

ORLANDO, FL -- The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority Board unanimously re-elected Jeffry B. Fuqua chairman at its April meeting.

Prior to today’s re-election, Jeffry Fuqua, Ph.D., served as Chairman of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority since January 2001, and had served previously in that capacity from 1988 to 1994 following appointment as a board member in 1986. He was re-appointed to the Board by Governor Jeb Bush in April 2000.

In accepting the election, Chairman Fuqua thanked the board for their support and encouraged them to look forward to the challenges ahead. He further commented: "As passenger traffic returns and increases, we must continue to concentrate strategically on being fiscally responsible, maintaining aviation security and initiating those demand-driven projects that will allow Orlando International Airport to grow with passenger traffic and the community."

He is president and sole stockholder of Amick Construction Company; a firm involved in site preparation, paving and public utility improvements for various public and private projects in the Central Florida area.

As a community leader active in Orange County’s development, Mr. Fuqua is a former Chairman of the Orange County Development Advisory Board, past Chairman of the Orange County Road Construction Advisory Board, and President of the Central Florida Road Builders Association.

Mr. Fuqua is a licensed private pilot and holds a multi-engine rating. He received his Doctorate of Philosophy (mathematics major) from the University of Miami.

The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority was created by a State of Florida legislative act in 1975 to administer all aviation activities of the City of Orlando and Orange County, Florida and to provide a means to serve the public interest through the coordination of the planning, operating and constructing of aviation facilities at Orlando International and Orlando Executive Airports.

Of the Authority's seven-member board, five are appointed by the Governor of the State of Florida for a term of four years (up to two consecutive terms) and one each is elected from the Orange County Commission and the Orlando City Council for a two year term (with no limit).

The board now consists of Jeffry B. Fuqua, Chairman; Jacqueline Bradley, Vice Chairperson; Jose A. Rey, Treasurer; Orange County Chairman Rich Crotty; Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer; Robert W. Theisen, Jr.; and Jeanne Vanmeter.
